Brightspot Integrations Guide

Understanding Shopify product imports

In Brightspot, you can create products from scratch; however, products are more commonly imported from Shopify. As a result of the import, a variety of metadata pertaining to the products is brought into Brightspot, including:

  • The product's details: price, compare-at price, quantity, SKU number, and barcode.
  • Any variants of the product, like different size or color variants. The product details described above (price, quantity, etc.) are then distributed to each variant. For example, if your product is a shirt that costs $40, and you create red and black variants, then the $40 price detail is attributed to both variants.

After importing a Shopify product, Brightspot maps these details and variants to the Options field in the content edit form. The contents of this field vary widely depending on the how the product is configured in Shopify, but the field typically contains read-only values that you can only change in Shopify. After importing a product field, the Options field will be set to one of two values: No Options or Options Available. Refer to the module below for more information.

Options fields (No Options)

If your product in Shopify has details like price, compare-at price, quantity, SKU, or barcode but no variants (like size or color variants), then after an import, the Options field in Brightspot is set to No Options by default. The fields in this selection, described below, are read-only.
FieldDescription
PricePricing information about the product.
Compare At PricePricing information for the product or other comparable products as they appear on other online stores. Prices entered into this field are rendered on your site with strike-through formatting.
QuantityQuantity information for the product.
SKUThe product's SKU number.
Bar CodeThe product's bar code number.
After an import, if the Options field is set to No Options, your content edit form looks similar to the following:

Options fields (Options Available)

If your product in Shopify has details like price, compare-at price, quantity, SKU, or barcode, and also has size, color, or other variants, then after an import, the Options field in Brightspot is set to Options Available by default.

After an import, if the Options field is set to Options Available, your content edit form looks similar to the following:

The Options Available selection contains the following fields:
FieldDescription
OptionsA list of variant types, like size and color. This list does not contain the variants themselves (like Red, Black, Medium, Large), only information about the type of variant. The field itself contains two fields:
  • Name—The name of the variant type (for example, Size).
  • Values—The variants created from the variant type (for example, Medium and Large).
Product options types (Options Available).png Product options types (Options Available).png
VariantsA list of the product's variants. Each item in the list is a combination of the variant types and variants that comprise it. For example, if you added the variant types Size (and variants Medium and Large) and Color (and variants Red and Black), then this Variants field will contain a list of the following four variants:
  • Medium/Black
  • Medium/Red
  • Large/Black
  • Large/Red
You can expand each variant to see more information that is specific to it.

The variants themselves contain the following fields:
  • Title—The title of the variant. This field is auto-generated according to the combination of variants from which this variant is created (for example, Medium/Black); however, you can add a new title if desired.
  • Options—A list of the combinations from which this variant is created and named, and the same combination that is used to auto-generate the variant's title. For example, if the variant is titled Medium/Black, then this Variants field contains two items (as it does in the image above):
    • Product Variant Option: Size -> Medium
    • Product Variant Option: Color -> Black
Expanding a list item presents the variant type and variant in the Name and Value fields respectively.
  • Image—The image for the variant. This field allows you to override the default image for a given variant.
  • Price—Pricing information about the variant.
  • Compare At Price—Pricing information for the variant or other comparable products as they appear on other online stores. Prices entered into this field are rendered on your site with strike-through formatting.
  • Quantity—Quantity information for the variant.
  • SKU—The variant's SKU number.
  • Barcode—The variant's bar code number.

Any product details like price, compare-at price, quantity, SKU, or barcode are distributed to each variant and are read-only; however, you may override the title and image for each variant.
