Module placement

Modules can be included in the layout of a page, either at the global level, the site level, the section level, or the asset level. Each level down can either inherit how the layout is configured in the levels above, or override those configurations for a one-off layout. For details, see Overview of Brightspot's content hierarchy.

Module placement at the global level

At the global level, adding a module to the layout is reflected on all assets across all sites. For example, if, at the global level, an editor adds a four-column container module at the bottom of each asset, then every single asset—articles, pages, tag pages, etc.—will inherit this four-column container module across all sites.

Module placement at the site level

At the site level, adding a module to the layout is reflected on all assets across that specific site. For example, if, at the site level, an editor adds a sign-up form to the bottom of an asset, then the form will appear at the bottom of all assets created in that site.

Module placement at the section level

At the section level, adding a module to the layout is reflected across all assets associated with that specific section. For example, if, at the section level, an editor adds a quote module above the title, then the quote module will appear above the title of all assets associated with that section. This also applies to section-equivalent content types, like blog and podcast.

Module placement at the asset level

At the asset level, adding a module to the layout is reflected only in the asset itself. For example, if an editor adds a list module to the side of an article, then the list module only appears in that article, and not on other articles or other content types.

In any of the cases explained above, you can add modules to the layout of a page by selecting options from the Above, Aside, or Below lists found within each level's layout settings. For details, see Above, Aside, and Below layout blocks.
