Promo module


A promo promotes an asset and appears in a containing page. Promo modules can be used as leads for articles, sections, tags, homepages, and more.

This topic describes how to create a shared promo that you can use in multiple pages. (If you want to create a one-off promo, see Creating a one-off module.)

To create a promo:

  1. In the header, click add.
  2. From the Create list, select Promo module.
  3. Using the following table as a reference, complete the fields as needed.
  4. Complete your site's workflow and publish the page promo.

FieldDescription
Internal NameEnter an internal name for this asset. Brightspot uses this name internally, such as in the search panel and recent activity widget. This name is not visible to visitors to your site.
Item

Select one of the following:

  • Internal—Promo links to an asset in Brightspot.
  • No Link—Promo does not contain a link.
  • External—Promo links to a web page outside your site.

For Internal and External selections, you can set whether the URL opens in the same window or in a new window.

TitleThis field defaults first to the internal asset's Promo Title (if available), and next to the asset's Title or Headline field. This title appears in the shared promo. You can modify the Title if necessary.
DescriptionThis field defaults first to the internal asset's Promo Description (if available), and next to the asset's Description field. You can modify the Description if necessary.
Image OverrideThis field defaults to the internal asset's Lead image (if any). This image appears in the shared promo. You can select a different image if necessary.
Call To Action Button TextEnter text appearing on the call-to-action button. This text is visible to the visitors to your site.

FieldDescripton
CategoryEnter text to override what appears as the eyebrow text when this promo appears on a page.
AnchorModify the anchor to something that would make sense when appearing in an Anchor field's drop-down menu on another asset. This allows you to directly link to this module in another asset. Being specific makes it easier to identify in a list of other anchors.

FieldDescription
Hide DescriptionToggle on to hide the description of the asset contained in the list module. For example, toggling on this setting displays the Headline of an article, but hides the Description of an article contained in the list module.
Hide ImageToggle on to hide the image included on the asset contained in the module.
Hide Publish DateToggle on to hide the publish date of the assets included in the module.
Hide CategoryToggle on to hide the category of the asset included in the module.
Hide AuthorToggle on to hide the author of the asset included in the module.

Page Promo Module Styles


Field Description
TemplateSelect the template of this module from the list of options. Templates are visual presentation presets that differ depending on the type of module.
PresetSelect one of the following:
  • None—Applies styling from the site's theme.
  • Custom—Opens a form to customize the site's theme for this asset.
  • (Various)—Aside from None or Custom, there may be additional options in this list depending on the value selected in the Template field. If the selected template has presets, then those presets are able to be selected in this list and applied. For information about configuring template presets, see Creating a template preset.
Promo Title SizeOverrides the default text size of the promo title as specified in your theme's CSS file.
Promo Description SizeOverrides the default text size of the promo description as specified in your theme's CSS file.

FieldDescription
LocaleSets the content's locale. This setting can also be used to auto-localize content based on the users requested locale.
